JenniferD > June 30, 2009 Cinderellas Castle - taken on our first morning at the Magic Kingdom.

I have gone through and processed about a day and a half worth of photos so far. Still have 8 and a half days worth left.
JenniferD > June 29, 2009 While this is NOT a Disney photo - it is still a vacation photo. It was taken while I was standing in my driveway and we were putting the last few bags in the car before we headed out. The photo was taken on June 12th - the day we began our drive to Florida.

This type of cloud I find particularly beautiful. Most people think it means a dangerous situation but that is not so. As a matter of fact - mammatus clouds are usually found on the backside of a weakening thunderstorm.

Here is a snippet about mammatus clouds taken from the national weather service site. The national weather service is who trains skywarn storm spotters. Ian and I attend both the basic and advanced class each and every year.

...................
Mammatus Clouds - Rounded, smooth, sack-like protrusions hanging from the underside of a cloud (usually a thunderstorm anvil). Mammatus clouds often accompany severe thunderstorms, but do not produce severe weather; they may accompany non-severe storms as well.

JenniferD > June 28, 2009 T-Rex

We had a WONDERFUL time at Disney World. Our trip went by way to fast. The heat wasn't so bad, but the humidity was tough and slowed us down. It is actually hotter here in Dallas then it was there - but we do not have the humidity so it is much more tolerable. I took over 4000 photos while we were there. I know that seems like a huge amount, but I did a lot of multiple exposures, angles... and also a lot of bracketing. I really love HDR and want to improve my skills with it - so I made a point of bracketing anything that I thought might make a decent HDR.

This was taken at T-Rex - a new restaurant at Downtown Disney. We ate there our first night in Orlando - the night before we checked into our Disney resort. We really enjoyed it. This was not bracketed - but I did play around with it in Topaz using some of the free presets I found on the net to get an HDR effect.

I hope I don't bore you too much with all of the Disney photos I will be posting for well - probably quite a while. It will take me days if not weeks to get through them all and play around with them like I want to.
JenniferD > June 11, 2009 Guess what direction we are pointing our car in tomorrow? Mickey Direction! Hoping to be on the road no later than 7:00 am. We don't actually check into WDW until Monday - we like to make the drive a nice part of our vacation as well - stopping at our favorite places along the way. On the way home we go much faster - always eager to get home and back to our doggies.

Not sure if I will be posting again until we get back at the end of the month. I had Ian load lightroom and elements on the laptop just in case I get the urge, but I kind of doubt I will. ;)

...See you real soon!
JenniferD > June 10, 2009 This is our second favorite Disney resort hotel. It is Disney's Vero Beach resort in Vero Beach, Florida. It is right on the ocean - terrific views. Not the kind of place you go to if you want a lot of action and excitment. It is just a nice quiet relaxing resort with some of the best cast members I have ever met. I took this photo when we were there last June, but just played around with it using Topaz Adjust 3.. We aren't going this year and probably won't make it back next year either. I am missing it.

Thanks for all the comments on our pool. We really do love it and use it alot. Our normal vacation curse hit us again today. Every year either right before, right after we get back... or both - SOMETHING happens that needs to be fixed or someone gets sick. Well today we realized the timer that runs the pool pump which runs EVERYTHING in the pool is not working. It has to be manually started and turned off each day. Hopefully we can get someone here to fix it either today or tomorrow. We leave for 2 weeks on Friday. AND - hopefully (crossing my fingers here) it doesn't cost an arm and a leg or a first or second born child to fix.
JenniferD > June 9, 2009 This is where I spend most of my free time during the warmer months. The Canon 17-40mm L lens I rented for our vacation arrived and I had to try it out... what better place than my second favorite spot in the world (Disney being my first).
JenniferD > June 8, 2009 Disney's Vero Beach Resort - beach enterance

We had a really busy weekend - running a lot of errands and working on our pool. I didn't have any time to spend with my camera and probably won't in the next few days. Leave Friday for Disney!!! Not that I haven't mentioned that a time or two lately. ;) So last night I played around with some of last years vacation photos to see what I could do with them. This is one of my favorites from Vero Beach.
JenniferD > June 7, 2009 Meet Bernie

Last night around 10:30 the girls and I were watching some episodes of Ace of Cakes that we had saved on the DVR. Then Emily annouces that she wants cake. So both girls - Kylie and Emily went into the kitchen and started making a cake from scratch. Now neither of my girls have ever made a cake before - not even from a boxed mix. I was a bit "concerned".

They did a fantastic job though - even cleaned up after themselves.

When Emily was putting the top layer on - it broke. So she started to get creative. She told me the cakes name is Bernie. Bernie is an alien from outer space and is blue because he is sad. He misses his own planet.

LOL

Kids are great - aren't they?

BTW - the cake is 3 layers - vanilla, with homemade vanilla buttercreme frosting.
JenniferD > June 6, 2009 We found BAGWORMS on our Blue Juniper. I googled them - read up on them and then - we went to battle. I really hope we killed them - so they don't kill the juniper and then move onto something else.

I also took a close up - where you can actually see the bagworm coming out of the bag and eating one of the needles on the juniper. here is a link - http://jenniferd.smugmug.com/gallery/2734563_m2fVk#555829293_Jun9z-A-LB
JenniferD > June 5, 2009 I was so bored with this shot when I took it. So I decided to play around with it a bit and see how I liked the watercolor filter on it. Still not loving it - but it will have to do for today.

I rented a new wide angle lens (can't afford to buy and I am not sure which I want yet anyway) and it should arrive today. I have the sigma 10-20mm and LOVE it - but can't use it on my full frame 5DM2. We leave for Disney exactly one week from today (YIPPEEEEE) and I really wanted a wide angle to use when we are there. I rented the Canon 17-40L. Maybe if I play around with it a bit in the next few days I will get out of the rut I am in.

I promised Emily she can use the Sigma 10-20 on her XTI while we are at Disney - maybe that will get her posting again soon.
JenniferD > June 4, 2009 rose of sharon buds

I have been so bored with my photography lately. Am I the only one that gets this way? I just feel in a total rut - no creativity - not much desire to really pick up my camera. I feel like everything I have been doing looks the same... and I have no idea how to get past it. This has been going on for a few months now. Occassionally I will get a shot that I really like (the dance photo yesterday) - but for the most part everything I am doing just makes me yawn.

I just don't feel challenged anymore. Maybe going on vacation will help.

Any ideas?
JenniferD > June 3, 2009 The last dance recital photo - I promise. I just finished processing and editing the final ones this afternoon.

This is the very last pose of the very last dance in both recitals - taken from the finale, which was a tribute to the Beatles. This is Emily's jazz team. All of the jazz teams dance together during the finale.

JenniferD > June 2, 2009 I am so NOT a fan of these lil guys - but they are all over our yard. So many people think they are cute and adorable. Now while I have gotten much better and don't ALWAYS run away screaming - I have yet to understand their appeal. LOLOL As Emily says "Mom you're such a GIRL!"
JenniferD > June 1, 2009 I took this photo last June during our yearly family trip to Walt Disney World. Two weeks from today we will be checking in again for 10 magical nights. So to "celebrate" only having two more weeks to wait ( we actually leave the Friday before to start driving down) I reopened the raw file in Lightroom and reprocessed it. Last year I wasn't using Lightroom for my raw files and man does it make a difference.
