JenniferD > December 31, 2008 Too much eggnog?

I had to laugh when I saw this snowman in my neighbors front yard. He has had a long hard holiday season and seems to be a bit too partied out.

Happy New Year everyone.
JenniferD > December 30, 2008 From the Dallas Zoo

Here is the entire gallery - http://jenniferd.smugmug.com/gallery/6955580_ietuu#445116273_689DL

I am VERY happy to say I processed all of these using Lightroom 2.2 - then opened them in CS4 and did any post processing that needed to be done. I am still totally wowed by the Canon 5DM2 - I had to do very little Post work on any of these photos. Most of what was done was cropping and sharpening. I added a vignette to some of them.
JenniferD > December 29, 2008 - Emily and Zack

We went to the Dallas Zoo yesterday. Emily's friend Zack came along (isn't he adorable??!). I took this shot of them while we were having lunch.

BTW - thanks for all the advice and suggestions on CS4. I got some books (CS4 for dummies) and I am going to order the Scott Kelby book as well. Our bookstore didn't have the newest version but I found it on line. I am actually slowly getting familar with the program. I processed this and all the zoo photos with Lightroom 2.2 and then did a very minor amount of post work in CS4 - it seems to go a lot faster than using elements - so that is nice.
JenniferD > December 27, 2008 -thrown for a loop

I am feeling frustrated today. I got Photoshop CS4 for Christmas. I have been using Elements (version 5) for 2 years and can get it to do everything I want it to. Well CS4 is totally throwing me for a loop -hence the picture. I know I just need patience and maybe a good instruction manual. Usually I pick things up pretty quickly, but I have a feeling with CS4 - I am going to struggle for a while. Even the simple ctrl Z function isn't working with CS4. Any suggestions from those of you who use CS4 or even 3? Books? Online tutorials? Anything? I need help!
JenniferD > December 26, 2008 On Christmas eve we took a carriage ride through Highland Park area of Dallas. The Highland Park area goes all out at Christmas with hundreds of homes decorated with thousands of lights. This photo is the carriage we had the pleasure of riding in.
JenniferD > December 25, 2008 Santa was here!
JenniferD > December 24, 2008

Ian and I were out running last minute errands yesterday. We stopped and had lunch at this charming little candy/dessert store. They serve soups, sandwiches, desserts and some really good iced tea. There is also a chocolate factory and museum attached. We both really enjoyed sitting in their quiet dining room - just the two of us - slowing down and relaxing for a few minutes.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope your holiday is filled with as much love and joy as your heart can hold.
JenniferD > December 23, 2008 Merry Cowboy Christmas

This is part of a "cowboy" or western village that sits on the back of our piano. I love the warm glow that comes from it at night.
JenniferD > December 22, 2008 Just playing around with my new camera yesterday while the girls were making cookies. This is pretty much straight out of the camera. I added a slight vignette and sharpened for the web.

We got Emily's dance recital routine uploaded onto YouTube if anyone is interested. I know I know! I am a proud Mom.

JenniferD > December 21, 2008 Emily and the Grinch - from Emily's Christmas dance recital - taken with the new Canon 5DMKII - at ISO 6400! I could have set the ISO much lower than I had it, but I really wanted to see how it would perform and for the most part I am really happy. It is significantly better than my 30D. I have never been able to get a shutter speed past 100 during a recital with the 30D and I got it up to 1/750 with this camera. Totally floored me.
JenniferD > December 20, 2008 This ornament was given to me by Ian (the hubster) the first christmas we were married - 22 years ago. I had taken and student taught dance for 13 years. Tonight is Emily's (youngest daughter) Christmas dance recital. Some of you know her from the dailies as EmilyD. I took a photo of this ornament - thinking it would go with the "theme" of our day.

Thanks so much for all of the kind words from yesterdays vent about the camera and PC issues. So far so good with the pc - keeping my fingers crossed. The camera - well I just have to be patient for a bit or a little longer than a bit. It will get here eventually. I was just really wanting to have it for tonight and the recital. My 30D doesn't do nearly as well as I would like it to do in low light situations - even with my fastest lens. Oh well. In the scheme of life - a new camera is just not all that important is it? :)

edited to add - Ian just called me - he just got a phone call from the camera store - they just got in a huge shipment, went through it and MY CAMERA IS THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGOSH OMGOSH OMGOSH!!!! OK - big deep breath!

.... YIPPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! I will have it for tonight!!!!!!!!! Emily isn't the only one dancing today!!! :D :D :D :D
JenniferD > December 19, 2008 - wilted, deflated and sad

That is how I felt yesterday. When we ordered the 5DMkII we were told our account would not be charged for the camera until it had been shipped. On Tuesday our account was charged. Needless to say I was soooo excited. We paid for overnight shipping but it didn't come on Wed - nor did it arrive yesterday. I was busy running around yesterday so my husband called the store. They put him on hold four times, then finally forgot what he called about. He was not happy. They said they would call the warehouse and check on the shipment then call him back. He never got a phone call. So - on his way home from work yesterday he stopped by to speak with the manager. No one had even called about the camera yet. So while Ian was there the manager called. Turns out we were wrongly informed when we purchased/ordered the camera. The manager had assumed that because they do not charge on lower end cameras until they are shipped they wouldn't on a higher end camera. He was wrong. Not only does this store have our money and I do not have the camera, but they have NO IDEA when the warehouse will get a shipment of them in. Ian was rather "verbal" with the manager in a very busy store. He did say the manager was embarrassed and apologized profusely. If this store didn't have such an excellant extended service plan that covers EVERYTHING but fire and theft, I would have cancelled the order and taken my business elsewhere. Doing so would keep me from getting the plan that could save me if something happens to the camera - and - all it would really do is bumped to the bottom of any other stores waiting list.

Then yesterday my PC started with a very scary blue screen of death. Ian ran all kinds of checks and tests on it and nothing showed up. He had a gut feeling it may be the firewall/virus program he recently installed. So he removed it, put on a new one, ran a registery check, repair and then a complete virus scan again. So far so good - I would cross my fingers just in case, but it is super hard to type that way. ;)

Today has to be better - right?
JenniferD > December 18, 2008 -From a trip to the Arboretum from earlier this month. I have been so busy lately with clients and family that I haven't really been able to take a normal daily photo. Yesterday after working on client orders for a while I then went off and made a double batch of sweet and spicy chex mix, white chocolate/peppermint pretzels, truffles (didn't turn out as well as I had hoped) and some chocolate covered walnut and pecan clusters. I then put some gift tins together, cleaned up the huge mess from making all of that, got dinner started, wrapped 23 gifts (did 28 the day before and I can now say I am 2/3s done). Then after getting Emily from her dance class we had to take her to the store so she could pick out an exchange gift and a 2liter of soda for her drama club party tonight. After all of that I crashed in my favorite chair and watched the San Fran ballets production of The Nutcracker on PBS. No time for a daily yesterday - at least not one I was interested in taking.

On a good note however :D - see that big smile? My account was charged for the 5DMkII - which means it has been shipped. I am hoping to get it today. Sooooo excited. With Emilys Christmas dance recital being Saturday and that horrendous low light situation - it couldn't come at a better time.
JenniferD > December 17, 2008 One more of Sarah. This one made me smile when I saw the expression on her face. We had so much fun laughing and giggling together.
JenniferD > December 16, 2008 Meet Sarah.

I had a session with Sarah a few days ago. I taught at a private Christian preschool (teaching 3 yr olds) for eleven years. Sarah was a student in my very last class there. She is such a sweet sweet girl. I will probably be sharing a few photos of her from the session this week.

Sarah means a lot to me - as does her Mom. I think both of them are very special people and I was truly honored to be able to capture that amazing smile and sparkle that Sarah has.
